The Moon Looks Like Cheese is a children's book written by author Kimberly Jordaan. The story tells the tale of a family of mice that see their grandmother leave for the afterlife.
I illustrated the book and designed the layout for print. I also created various marketing materials for selling the book.
storyboard.
The first step in the process was to plan out the page layout of the book to accommodate the story within the page number restrictions.
Then, I had to do a rough sketch of what I imagined the illustrations could look like on these spreads.
illustrations.
Kimberly wanted the pictures to be hand-drawn and digitised. So, I illustrated 26 scenes using alcohol markers as a base and coloured pencils to fill in the details.
I scanned in the images at 600 DPI quality and did retouching and colour correcting in Photoshop.
book layout.
After preparing all of the illustrations for layout, I created the layout of the story with the pictures and the words of the story.
book cover design.
The book was printed in both softcover and hardcover versions, and as such, I had to create print-ready files for both cover versions.
promo video.
I created this promotional video to entice potential buyers and give information about the story, the inspiration behind the story, and the author.
social media images.
Alongside the promo video, I also created various social media images to be used in the author's marketing campaign.
